SeniorAve adheres to the Safe Harbor Agreement concerning the transfer of your personal information (as defined below) from the European Union to the United States of America. Accordingly, we follow the U.S.-EU Safe Harbor Principles and FAQs published by the U.S. Department of Commerce with respect to all such data (“Safe Harbor Principles”) on the following website: www.export.gov/safeharbor/.
1) Information Collected
SeniorAve collects personal information from our users at various different points on the Site. “Personal information,” as used herein, means information that is recorded in any form, is about or pertains to a specific individual and can be linked to that individual, such as the individual’s name, postal address, e-mail address and telephone number.
We collect information from you in two ways: i) information that you voluntarily provide to us (e.g. through our voluntary registration process, sign-ups or emails); and ii) information that is collected through automated tracking mechanisms (e.g. cookies).
Voluntary Information for Services and Features: We collect personal information when you choose to use certain other features of the Site, including: i) consenting to receive email or text messages about upcoming promotions or events, ii) participating in our forum, and iii) commenting on articles. When you choose to use these additional features, we require you to provide your “Contact Information” in addition to other personal information that may be required to complete a transaction such as your phone number, billing and shipping addresses and credit card information. Occasionally, we may also request information such as your shopping preferences and demographics which will help us better serve you and our others users in the future.
Cookies: The Site uses “cookies” and other tracking technologies. A cookie is a small text file that is stored on a user’s computer for record-keeping purposes. Cookies enable us to serve secure pages to our users without asking them to sign in repeatedly. Most browsers allow you to control cookies, including whether or not to accept them and how to remove them. If a user’s system is idle for a defined time, the cookie will expire, forcing the user to sign in again to continue their session. This helps to prevent unauthorized access to the user’s information while they are away from their computer.
You may set most browsers to notify you if you receive a cookie, or you may choose to block cookies with your browser, but please note that if you choose to erase or block your cookies, you will need to re-enter your original user ID and password to gain access to certain parts of the Site.
Third-Party Cookies: In the course of serving advertisements to this site, our third-party advertisers may place or recognize a unique “cookie” on your browser. Please see “Third Party Advertising.”
Referrals: You may choose to invite friends to join SeniorAve by sending invitation emails via our invite feature. We store the email addresses you provide so that the respondents may be added to your social network and also to send reminders of the invitations. We do not sell these email addresses or use them to send any other communication besides invitations and invitation reminders. Recipients of invitations may contact us using the information provided in the “Contact Us” section below to request removal of their information from our database.
2) How We Use and Share Your Information
SeniorAve only uses your personal information for the original purposes for which it was given. Further, before we use your personal information for any purposes other than that for which it was originally provided, we will inform you of the new purpose for which we intend to use your personal information, and we will provide you with an opportunity to request that we not share such information.
The following are some details regarding how we use your information:
To contact you: SeniorAve reserves the right to contact you regarding matters relevant to the underlying service provided and/or the information collected.
To serve personalized advertising to you: SeniorAve will not disclose, use, give or sell any personal information to advertisers without your consent. However, SeniorAve may provide advertisers with your non-personal information, such as region, gender, interests, goals, and habits for purposes of targeted advertising. Such information will be provided only in a way that no individual user can be identified or linked to any specific action or information. Please also see the section entitled “Third Party Advertising.”
To ensure that our services are delivered: SeniorAve may use your personal information to inform our suppliers, agents and other third parties who need to know such information in order to deliver services on behalf of SeniorAve.
To manage the Site and to provide a better user experience: We may permit certain trusted third parties to track usage, analyze data such as the source address that a page request is coming from, your IP address or domain name, the date and time of the page request, the referring Web site (if any) and other parameters in the URL. This is collected in order to better understand our Web site usage, and enhance the performance of services to maintain and operate the Site and certain features on the Site. We may use third parties to host the Site, operate various features available on the Site, send emails, analyze data and provide search results and links.
To support and enhance your use of the Site: We use personal information to provide you with a more enjoyable, convenient online experience and to help us identify and/or provide information, products or services that may be of interest to you. In addition, we may share personally identifiable or other information with our parent, subsidiaries, divisions, and affiliates.
To respond to legal requests and prevent harm: SeniorAve may disclose personal information in cases where we have reason to believe that disclosing this information is necessary to identify, contact or bring legal action against someone who may be violating our Terms of Service or use of the Site or may be causing injury or interference with our rights, property, our customers or anyone who could be harmed by such activities. Furthermore, we reserve the right to disclose your personal information as required by law and when we believe that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights and/or to comply with a judicial proceeding, court order or legal process served on the Site.
Transfer in the event of a sale or change of control: We may transfer personal information as an asset in connection with a proposed or actual merger or sale (including any transfers made as part of an insolvency or bankruptcy proceeding) involving all or part of our business or as part of a corporate reorganization, stock sale or other change in control.
Risks inherent in sharing information: If you use a bulletin board, chat room or any other publicly accessible area of the Site (“Public Area”), you should be aware that any personal information you submit there can be read, collected or used by other users of these forums, and could be used to send you unsolicited messages. WE ARE NOT LIABLE OR RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PERSONAL INFORMATION YOU CHOOSE TO SUBMIT IN ANY PUBLIC AREAS OF THE SITE.
3) How We Protect Your Information
We are committed to protecting the information we receive from you. We take appropriate and reasonable security measures to protect your personal information in our possession against unauthorized access to or unauthorized alteration, disclosure or destruction of data. To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of information, we maintain appropriate and commercially reasonable physical, electronic, and managerial procedures, including the encryption of personal data, to safeguard and secure the information and data stored on our system. While no computer system is completely secure, we believe the measures we have implemented reduce the likelihood of security problems to a level appropriate to the type of data involved.
4) Third Party Advertising
Advertisements appearing on this Site may be delivered to you by SeniorAve or one of our Web advertising partners. Our Web advertising partners may set cookies. Doing this allows the advertising partners to recognize your computer each time they send you an advertisement. In this way, they may compile information about where you, or others who are using your computer, saw their advertisements and determine which advertisements are clicked. This information allows an advertising partner to deliver targeted advertisements that they believe will be of most interest to you. SeniorAve does not have access to or control of the cookies that may be placed by the third party advertising servers of ad partners.
5) Accessing and Updating Your Personal Information and Preferences
We provide mechanisms for updating and correcting your personal information for many of our services. You may modify or remove any of your personal information at any time by logging into your account and accessing features such as “Edit” and “Account”, or by emailing our customer support at firstname.lastname@example.org or by contacting us by telephone or postal mail at the information provided in the “Contact Us” section below.
6) Email Choice/Opt-out
You will have the opportunity to opt-out of any use, processing or storage of your personal information by any third party that is not our agent or service provider (even if such information is being collected in connection with a purpose set forth herein), so you can make an informed choice as to whether or not to share your information with such third party. In addition, if you no longer wish to receive updates or notifications you may opt-out of receiving these communications by changing your “Email Notification” settings in your “Account Settings.”
7) Children’s Privacy and Parental Controls
You are not authorized to use the Site unless you are age 18 or older. We do not solicit or knowingly collect or use any information from anyone under age 18.
Parents should be aware that there are parental control tools available online that can be used to prevent children from submitting information online without parental permission or from accessing material that is harmful to minors.
Please contact us using the information provided in the “Contact Us” section below if you believe we may have collected information from your child and we will work to delete it.
8) Disclaimer to Security
